Updated: Mar 19, 2021
Kyphoplasty is a procedure for patients have had compression fractures (also called wedge fractures) in the spine. These types of fractures are frequently associated with osteoporosis (thin bones) and other disease processes. A balloon is placed inside of the compressed vertebral body and inflated. This is followed by placement of specialized cement to help support the vertebral body.
